Virtuos celebrates 10 years as a global leader in game development
Shanghai, China, December 5, 2014 – Virtuos today celebrates the 10th anniversary of the company’s foundation in 2004 and tonight hosts a party in Shanghai to thank employees, clients and friends in the gaming industry for their support over the years. Over the last decade, Virtuos has grown from a startup serving a single client to become one of the world’s largest video game development companies with more than 1,000 staff spread across eight studios and offices worldwide. Today, the company offers a full range of services from 2D/3D artwork to full game development across multiple platforms and consoles, whilst also expanding into game co-production. With a client roster featuring fifteen of the world’s top twenty digital entertainment companies, the Virtuos name has become synonymous with quality, professionalism and innovation across the games development industry. This milestone marks the high point of an already exciting year for Virtuos, which has seen the company achieve a string of record-breaking successes, including: contributing art to 50% of the top 10 best-selling games on XboxOne and Playstation 4; shipping XCOM Enemy Within for IOS, the third title developed in China to exceed the 85% Metacritic Metascore* (the other two titles were also co-developed by Virtuos); and providing 3D models for Transformers: Age of Extinction, which has become China’s top-grossing box office game of all time. “We knew that establishing the company early in China would provide access to the industry’s largest and most promising talent pool,” said Virtuos’ Co-Founder and CEO, Gilles Langourieux, an industry veteran with 20 years of experience growing game development studios. “Our base in Shanghai has proved to be a solid foundation for international market outreach – and through the quality of our team’s creative design and sheer hard work, we have succeeded in building a global game industry player here in China.” Over the years, Virtuos has accumulated expertise enabling it to manage every aspect of high-quality game development. The company now plans to leverage this expertise by engaging in co-productions where it invests resources alongside clients to create new titles. One of the first such title is Fairy Master for IOS and Android which has been co-produced with leading China publisher Netease and is currently in Beta testing. Other co-productions are in the works with publishers looking to leverage their brand in new ways and with smaller developers looking to bring their vision more vibrantly to life.
